Committee

A welcome from our Chairperson

Dear Parents/ Carers,

I wanted to introduce myself and wish you a warm welcome/ welcome back to the playschool.

My name is Emma Cox and I have been Chairperson of the playschool committee for five years now.  My eldest daughter left preschool a few years ago and my youngest, Eleanor, sadly left in July 2020 to start her new adventures at primary school. Although I may not be around as much in the mornings or at pick up now, I can still be contacted easily via preschool staff. There will also be other committee members who will be more than happy to chat with you.

We have a lovely committee of warm, friendly mums and grandparents (but dads/other grandparents etc are welcome too!) and together with the staff we work to maintain the wonderful environment that the playschool provides for the children.

As a charity-run playschool we rely heavily on fundraising.  I don’t think it is always obvious how important this is, but to put it in simple terms the fees you pay cover staff wages and their training, hall rental, and snacks, office supplies, that sort of thing.  Any of the lovely equipment the children have at their disposal is provided either through donation or through fundraising.  We are lucky that currently there is a fabulous array of toys and equipment, but as you can imagine these things get a lot of wear and tear and need replacing, and the staff love to provide interesting new activities and experiences for the children as much and as often as possible.

With this in mind I wanted to appeal to you to have a think about what you might be able to do to help us along the way with our fundraising – after all, the more of us that chip in one way or another, the better the experience is for our kids.

I know that joining a committee can feel daunting, but with committee numbers reducing due to children leaving to start school we need some new members! Here’s the honest truth of what it involves:

  • 4 meetings a year (lasting about an hour & a half at the pub!)
  • Helping out at fundraising events (providing help organising an event, helping on stalls, setting up/clearing away etc)

Or maybe you could put your name down as a parent-helper?  Perhaps offering an hour or so at our fundraising events to “man” a stall.

One easy thing we can all do is visit Easy Fundraising – following the links through their website to do your online shopping automatically raises us funds, and costs you nothing.

Do you have skills that might be of use to offer to the playschool for our events/ advertising etc?

Do you work for/ own a business that could provide raffle prizes for us?

Or in these busy days of many parents working full time and not having a moment to spare, perhaps you would be happy to make a small charity donation to the playschool to help us along the way?

If you can think of anything you would be willing to contribute it would be great if you would please fill out the form at the bottom of this letter and hand to a staff member, so we know who we can call on to help out.

Our yearly AGM is held at the Village Hall in September (date to be confirmed) which is where we can officially sign up new members to the committee so if you are interested please do come along!

Subject to Covid-19 restrictions/government advice, here’s a taster of the events which we would usually run each year;

In October we have our Pumpkin Ball – a very memorable event – everyone dresses up in their Halloween costumes and enjoys a disco and lots of fun, gruesome stalls (these are tamely gruesome of course!)

In December we join in at the School Christmas Fair, with a glitter tattoo stall, and don’t forget the children’s Christmas play here at the playschool (we’ll be on the lookout for raffle prizes for this!)

The summer sees us at the School Summer Fair, tattooing again, and then we run our own family fun day, details to be confirmed in the new year.

Lots of fun to be had – I hope you can join us.

With warm wishes,

Emma.
